In John A. Robertson's essay, "Cruzan: No Rights Violated," he argues that the decision made by the Missouri Supreme Court to deny Nancy Beth Cruzan's parents' request to have their daughter's artificial nutrition and hydration tube removed was not a violation of Nancy Beth Cruzan's right to refuse treatment because she had not personally refused treatment. Robertson also claims that keeping Cruzan alive with this particular medical treatment does not alienate her constitutional rights, or her parents'. Robertson states that, " A permanently vegetative patient does not have interests that can be harmed," simply because he/she cannot feel pain and doesn't know his/her present condition. Robertson then goes on to say that simply assuming that one would decline treatment in that situation because of his/her prior beliefs is not enough evidence to maintain that the directive was, in fact, released by the said person, and to relieve their self from a state law that orders such a treatment, the person must have released a directive against that particular treatment. If one were to argue that an incompetent patient has the right to have their medical treatment decided by another person on the presumption that it follows with the patient's previous beliefs, Robertson would declare that the patient is much different than they were before and does not reserve a constitutional right to be managed in the same way they would have been. In placing the right to decide Nancy's treatment in her parents' hands, her parents would be acting in their own interests according to Robertson, and in choosing to stop medical treatment of their daughter, they would be denying their child medical care deemed necessary by the state, which is illegal. With this in mind, Robertson says that the Supreme Court should not extend a family's privacy to include the refusal of necessary treatment when the [above] treatment is not causing harm to the child. Next Robertson says that if a person wants to refuse treatment while incompetent, it is their obligation to make a directive before becoming incompetent in order to refuse treatment on the principle of that particular directive, and that requiring this is "not an undue burden on persons who wish to issue directives against medical care when incompetent." If "clear evidence" does not exist in a past directive, Robertson says that providing the treatment does not alienate a person's right to regulate his/her own care because of the lack of evidence.

The same is true for a leader, if he truly is kind, honest, and fair he will prosper. Love without truth is a just an emotion, while truth without love is a cold, hard reality. However, truth and love together have the power to transform the lives of others and ourselves. True leaders who possess wisdom utilize love and integrity to confront others and get them on the ... ...ith people who harm Jesus’ Body. Some of us are natural leaders and some are natural followers, however, all of us have been given leadership in some area. Parents have the God-given responsibility to lead their children. Pastor's have the responsibility to lead the congregation towards God and strengthen their relationship. We all share one thing in common, and that should be our willingness to lead others to God's saving grace. Following these principles from Proverbs will not guarantee success, but they do guarantee that God’s work will move forward. We are not called to succeed but to be faithful to Christ. The Lord did promise that, â€Å"He who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished † (Phil 1:6) When we are faithful to God’s principles of leadership, we can be sure God will ensure the forward movement of His kingdom.

If living in the States or even further away it is still an expectation that if able the pilgrimage will be made. The five pillars of Islam are just the beginning of the Qur'an’s foundation for living. The Quran is also a book of wisdom giving inspiration and guidance to the people of Muslim religion. As reported in the Sura 17 â€Å"This Qur'an guides to that which is more right and better. It is filled with reminders of God’s mercy, blessing, warnings of what will occur to those who do not follow the righteous path, instructions for daily living and also includes stories of ancient civilizations and the lessons they learned (Hooker, 1996). This makes the Quran the bible or words of wisdom followed by all Muslims in the practice of their religion and lifestyles.

A map to the next world

Joy Harjo’s poems are filled with so many images and passages that let’s one ponder and think about the complexity of the work.   She is able to balance contemporary American life and ancient tribal truths magnificently.She is able to brilliantly attach the reader to the character.   In â€Å"A Map to the Next World†, one knows that the poem is most probably addressed to a younger member of her family, a young daughter, or a grand daughter, in fact.   But one feels that Harjo is personally talking to you – we are put in the shoes of a member of a kin.In this poem (A Map to the Next World) one can see how the idea of survival is central to the individual and the Native Americans as a people.   And the way she addresses this survival is by emphasizing the importance of memory (a very central theme in Native American culture) – how one should not forget one’s heritage.And she writes:   â€Å"Keep track of the errors of our forgetfulne ss; a fog steals our children while we sleep†.   She asks her readers to remember their heritage and find solace in it – to â€Å"Remember the hole of our shame marking the act of abandoning our tribal grounds†.The poem promotes an awareness and understanding of the strength of memory – a latch on the value on the powers of memory that all Native American cultures have. Moreover, one can see how survival and continuance are very strong bases for this poem.According to Harjo, in this world, one can easily forget about one’s heritage.   â€Å"What I am telling you is real, and is printed in a warning on the map.   Our forgetfulness stalks us, walks the earth behind us, leaving a trail of paper diapers, needles and wasted blood.†Ã‚   Harjo emphasizes the function of courage in the entire scheme of things, for keeping one’s spirit honest and vital.There seems to be a sense of loss of land, love, innocence and heritage that escalates within.   She discusses the importance of courage by alluding to many Native American spiritual tremors – â€Å"The place of entry is the sea of your mother’s blood, your father’s small death as he longs to know himself in another.†Ã‚   There has to be an understanding of the past for one to be able to move forward.This discipline is central to many Native American cultures.   In this case, Harjo alludes to her mother’s heritage (her blood), and how her father was lost in a sea of identities.â€Å"There is no exit.†, she says.   One must have courage to survive.   One must have courage to go on.   One must have courage to be as tenacious as to venture out alone – to be able to trust oneself.   â€Å"The map can be interpreted through the wall of the intestine – a spiral on the road of nowledge.†Coursing through survival and courage, Harjo moves in out of the realms of dream and reality.   She focuses on bot h hope and despair, and survival and extinction at the same time.   By showcasing these diverse strands of life, she is able to bring a harmonious balanced experience to the reader in the context of cultural allusions.â€Å"You will travel through the membrane of death, smell cooking from the encampment where our relatives make a fest of fresh deer meat and corn soup, in the Milky Way.†Ã‚   In this passage, she focuses on the point that to survive this world, one must not forget.   To go through life and remember, one must travel the way our forefathers did.â€Å"Through the membrane of death† reminds one of the cultural belief in reincarnation – that through dying, one is born.   â€Å"Encampment   †¦ fresh deer meat† both paint the picture of a Native American village dinner – together around a fire, feasting on the day’s hunt.This melding of dream visions, memories, myths and history promotes a centeredness in deep reverence for the natural world (a very Native American ideology), where one should find solace in one’s own heritage and mythology.   But Harjo does not necessarily talk about her own heritage (Cherokee) alone, but includes other Native American tribal traditions.There are snippets of other traditions which she brings in as a way to universalize experiences.   In a way, she is striving to resolve polarities to bring the world into a balance through the awareness of the unspoken superiority one feels as a bearer of ancient culture.   All one has to do is remember – â€Å"They have never left us; we abandoned them for science†.

I have one member in my family that truly consider â€Å"special†. This person is my youngest son, Adrian. Let me tell you a few things why I think that he is a special person. Adrian was diagnosed with Autism when he was about 2 1/2 years old. He is anti-social and non-verbal. Anti-social means that he doesn't interact with others that are around him. For example, Adrian likes to play by himself. The non-verbal means that he has no ommunication through speech. Even though h is lacking speech, he can communicate his needs in his very own way. For instance, when Adrian wants something to eat, he would come to me, grab my hand and pulls me to the refrigerator. On the other hand, it can get frustrating for him because I am the only person that can understand his body language cues. In addition to his anti-social and non- verbal communication, I have to mention that Adrian s the most loving child I have seen. The reason being is usually children with Autism do not like to be hugge d or cuddled. Adrian loves to give hug and cuddle with me as well as he does with others. Finally, I understand that my son is anti-social and non-verbal. At the same time, he has the ability to be social and communicate with me. He does it in a way no other person would it. As a result of this, I feel that this makes my son a â€Å"special† person.
